Google has announced a new feature called Search Perspectives. The aim is to show results from people with a lived experience relating to your query, where you might benefit from the personal stories and experience of others.

A Perspectives filter will be rolled out in the coming weeks, which will appear at the top of search results. Tap on this and you’ll see long or short-form videos, images and posts that people have shared on discussion boards, Q&A sites and social media platforms such as Reddit and YouTube.

Update to Helpful Content

In the same blog post Google said it would be rolling out an update to the Helpful Content system in the coming months that “that more deeply understands content created from a personal or expert point of view, allowing us to rank more of this useful information on Search”.

Google is focusing on content with unique expertise and experience. It said helpful content can reside in hard-to-find places. A  comment in a forum or a post on a little-known blog could provide unique expertise and it is these “hidden gems” Google wants to show more of on Search, to improve the results.

The way Google ranks review content on Search also has a greater emphasis on the quality and originality of the information, with first-hand experience or genuine expertise being rewarded.
