Google has launched a new Shopping experience which it says is “rebuilt from the ground up with AI”. The new experience has been released in the US and will roll out over the next few weeks.
AI-powered shopping research
Google’s generative AI aims to provide rounded answers to a product search. Instead of having to type in multiple queries, it will surface relevant information covering factors to consider for your purchase.
For example, if you were searching for a winter jacket in Seattle - one that keeps you both warm and dry - you’ll see an AI-generated summary highlighting key factors you should take into consideration when buying a jacket for this location and climate.
The new AI-generated briefs are currently labelled as experimental and Google says they may not always get it right. Users are encouraged to provide feedback via the 3-dot menu at the top right of the page.
Under the brief you’ll be shown recommended products, sorted into categories that give a more organized view of jackets to consider, making navigation through your options easier.
Dynamic filters let you refine your search by additional factors such as size or availability near you.
The revamped experience also includes an AI-powered feature allowing you to try on clothes and accessories virtually.
Personalized results
Google Shopping home page will offer a personalized feed with products and videos tailored to you based on your past preferences and shopping behaviour. You can pick up your search where you left off last time so you don’t have to start again from scratch.
If you don’t want personalized results you have the option to switch this off or adjust your preferences via Shopping preferences in the Google Shopping menu.
Deals
Google Shopping now includes a new dedicated, customized deals page where you can view deals tailored to you, based on your shopping habits and searches.
New opportunities for online retailers
This major update to Shopping presents opportunities for marketers and online retailers to reach customers more effectively, showcasing products and deals.
Personalization brings better targeting possibilities with customers who are more likely to be interested in your products. This makes it easier to connect with the right audience and potentially drive conversions.
You can access the new experience via the Shopping tab or at shopping.google.com.
